How to Pitch Your Blog #WOWsummit

Trying out new products, especially pre market, is a lot of fun.  We’ve worked with some top companies in the past 6 months such as Target, Amazon, Guidecraft, Sterno, PB Crave, Ozobot, Step2 Company and many others.  It has been so fun throwing parties to showcase a product new to market, like Sterno’s S’Mores Maker, or style a party using great Semi Handmade details thanks to HP InstaInk.  Approaching a brand can seem daunting, but we have 5 Tips to help you pitch your blog after attending #WOWsummit 2016.

EQtainment: What We Didn’t Love

We received free products from EQtainment in exchange for our unbiased review.  All opinions are our own.

EQtainment is a newly launched brand with a suite of products by Harvard alumna Sofia Dickens, designed to “improve emotional intelligence globally by creating fun and simple tools for practicing social skills and better behavior.”

We love that this is a mom owned business by a clearly well spoken, intelligent momprenuer.  We really believe in emotional intelligence, and we are present parents, and really encourage our kids to name and share their feelings with kindness and respect. Sofia Dickens and her team did a ton of quality research, and her information is solid (see their blog).  Like I said, I really wanted to love these products.

(Un)Biased? Writing Negative Reviews

We received free products from EQtainment in exchange for our unbiased review.  All opinions are our own.

I’m sure you’ve seen that statement before.  If you’re a blogger or reviewer or journalist who has received products for free or at a discount, it’s required under the FTC so readers know that, although we claim our review is unbiased, there is a potential for, shall we say, influence?

In our experience, pressure to be positive never comes from the brand.  It’s something within ourselves, that if we’re honest about it, we might say:

a) I like getting free stuff; We fear, if I write something negative, I might stop getting picked to be a party host, product tester, brand ambassador, etc. Continue reading (Un)Biased? Writing Negative Reviews

InstaFire Inside

Well, every good event planner has a contingency plan, and in the atlantic region in August, you can basically plan on afternoon thunderstorms that threaten to flash flood.

We planned for the rain, but what was unusual for us this year was the HEAT!  It made an early August outdoor BBQ simply impractical since most of our friends have young kids. Continue reading InstaFire Inside

Get a Grip

This was not another party for us.  This was a small group celebration, a joyful noise with our own resident worship pastor (yes, our group is super lucky!)

But our family isn’t all that lucky.  If you’ve been following us, you’ve seen we spend about 60-80 days a year in the hospital. That’s why I think this post is aptly entitled “Get a Grip” because, frankly, it’s what we have to do each time one of us gets admitted.

But thankfully, we got to make our joyful noise was right after our youngest had been discharged from the hospital after numerous seizures.
